So I just downloaded TCO, and after going through the introduction and starting chapter 1, I see the combat kings in my inventory. They have a cost of 250 mana for some reason, so I level up until I have enough to use them, and when I click on the combat king in my inventory, my armor becomes invulnerable, and I start exploding, taking damage, and then i die. Anybody have any ideas on how to fix this or what might be going on? This might not even be a bug and I'm just screwing something up.
Also, I am able to use them when they are in the boxes, but then the combat kings dont appear in my combat kings tab.

I've never heard of this one before. What version of the game are you playing with?
The bug with the stashes is known, just don't use them from there (the same goes with potions of course)

I think I got it to work? I put the combat kings into the storage boxes, and then just continued the campaign for a bit. After a couple cutscenes, the mana cost disappeared from the combat kings and using them works. I have no idea what went wrong since if I start a new game, it still kills me.

For some reasons, 'Using items' in your inventory triggers hero's ultimate skills. Some skills targets your heros, but AOE skills never targets you.
So chose chaotic rift, then you got free Ult.

I was refering to the warcraft 3 version, i think this bug has to do with you using 1.3.0 or similar. In general I suggest using versions 1.25 or 1.26 which are the most stable in my opinion
