Basic information
« on: June 13, 2013, 07:18:23 am »
Hey,

Here are some very basic things about the first book's story. You can ask here questions too and eventually I will update the list.

Main Storyline
  • 26 chapters
  • 11 main characters
  • The story is about one extremely colorful and rich adventure from Umnia to Balgaron
  • The story is very dynamic; things will quickly move forward and there's no a single point where the story stuck to a place
  • The story is 3 years before TCO, but the second book continues from the story of TCO(the first book is like introduce to readers what's the world about)
  • Characters that can be seen here from TCO are: Phodom, Fradz, Galeoth, Xirenze, Zeemnan, Tharo, Xanopin, Alfred, king of Balgaron and some kazas near the Dragon Inn
  • In these nations the charcaters will travel: Umnia(northern kingdom), underground where popags live, Gadezka(an empire other side of the sea to Balgaron), Saoloth and Balgaron
  • A lot of background story is also told but yet again dynamically. For example how different nations work, like Balgaron being a regular kingdom, Eredoom being a democracy, Eredezka an empire, Saoloth somewhat a communist nation and popags nations being beyond communism where even children does not have parents

Other information
  • The book will be written in Finnish but all the names are international. After it is released I will try my best to quickly find a way someone to translate it to English. I was originally writing it with English but my skills aren't good enough.
  • The book uses three type of story telling which makes the story very interesting. Mostly the book is written with 'passive omniscient third-person', but also some scenes are written with 'first-person' view in both 'present' or 'past tense'(depends of the scene).

And here I was thinking Aero didn't like many women in his stories ::).

Firstly, will it have a MAIN main character? Sounds weird, but I'm talking about the one considered the most important character(or...most of the times at least) for anyone that reads it, a.k.a the protagonist.

Secondly, If the above is answered as "yes", that gifted guy with a weird name that you was making, will he be the protagonist? If no, will he be in this book or in future ones that you are planning?

And here I was hoping that Fradz and Galeoth (or just Fradz at the very least) wouldn't appear in the book.

Why :P? Besides, it's not like they'll be that important.

Oh but I like women! I've made the women very interesting. They are not really boobs and asses if you think. I've created for them their own unique personalities and they're also very important part of the whole story line.

Yes, of course there will be main character as well as antagonist. Gheiz is the name, that young boy who miraculously won the tournament against all the odds. Or perhaps there were something else that helped him?

But of course I had to put Fradz there. He'll help at one point but Galeoth... Well he's actually doing the opposite, but for a reason. I love guys who are funny yet mysterious. Fradz however is a bit too over the top.

We do; you don't. Or do I have to remind you about that bag you were even seriously considering to be added?

What-

No, I mean that bag of *twisted stuff*. Hmmh. Quite awky isn't it? Perhaps it's better that you don't remember it after all (or keep pretending you don't, whichever way it is).

Will the book be written in a lame "modern", movie-like style with 27 short chapters and narration jumping between main plot and some secondary events, that are supposed to be somehow "vital" to the story, or maybe in a more classic, epic style, with 27 long chapters, solid storyline and the narration fluently passing from one important event to another, without artificially prolonging the book, with the reason being the inability of the author to focus on a main storyline without making the book ridiculously short?

I hate modern fantasy books. Sometimes the events around the main character are really interesting, but the author usually forces the reader to go through dozens of boring side stories concerning way to many other characters. And so I read this one, quite interesting, but 10 page short chapter about the main character, but then I have to jump to the other side of the world like three times and read about three other characters who for some reason don't have any contact with eachother. If I'm supposed to wonder what is happening to the friends of the main character, while he is hidden in some forrest learning some awesome magic from the elves, why not let me wonder? Instead, the author shows me everything every ten pages. If a main character worries about his friends he hasn't seen for months - good, but why do I have to know what they are doing, while he doesn't? You know what is the most interesting part of any book? That you don't know everything. The story of the main character may be like 20% of everything that is going on during the book, but why take all the suspense and show the reader the other 79%? What, you really think that other 1% you don't show is going to make me interested? Damn, you're dumb. If someone has to create 5 parallel stories in addition to the main one, then it means that he just can't write more than 100 pages about the plot he invented about the main character. And that means he shouldn't write any more than 100 page novels at all.

I hope your book isn't going to be like that though. Although I have suspitions about this "introducing" to the world. I haven't experianced something like that working in a book. You are able to write a book with both the story and lore, I believe in you.

There will be jumps because it isn't realistic that always something happens and it is boring to write about days when nothing really happens. But of course there are events when the characters simply be with each other, but not too much. There are days when nothing really happens and those days will be skipped and told shortly in 'narrator' way. The narrator is the main character.

I'm not going to write the book like LOTR. I'm not gonna tell how does the flowers works and tell things too detailed. My focus has always been with making a dynamic story that is easy to learn, goes quickly forward, is colorful and has powerful and interesting characters. There should not be a good or bad characters and everyone has their own reasons.

I'm pretty sure you're now talking about Game of Thrones where the story jumps from a character to another and from a place to another. This will definitely not happen(well actually at one point but it's pretty well designed chapter and funny one too). I would say that this book is 'easy to learn yet hard to master'. I mean it is easy to read and you get the idea what's happening but if you want to understand everything you'll eventually have to read the book at least twice to understand everything. It's little like TCO. I like that way. ???

The book doesn't tell a single random character's history. Only the main characters' and main antagonist's stories are told but even they have many things that are not entirely told. But of course if there are characters like Zeemnan, couple of dragons and so on many things are left mysterious and up to the reader. I like that way because it makes the reader read more and more and that is what I'm aiming. Why? Because this is just the beginning. Even the main character's true identity is left mysterious, but there are many hints. If the reader is good enough to link things together he may reveal his true identity already. TCO and the book has many links to each other.

It's not always boring when nothing happens during some part of a book. There was a writer in Poland, Henryk Sienkiewicz, who could write dozens of pages about nothing and you were like "Wow, nothing happened in five chapters yet I still am amazed!" And the story still remained purely epic, lots of action, lots of dialogues. Maybe you've heard of "Quo Vadis" - it's about Christianity in Rome during Nero's time. I think it's very popular in other countries, couse he got a Nobel Prize for it. Even though it isn't fantasy (well, except the existance of God), you should definetly check out his style.

Yea but I don't like to write about nothing.  [-)

Action, action, action. Humor, humor humor. Epic atmosphere and good feeling.  Tears and joy. Pleasure and pain. But also mysterious characters, places and so on. That's what I want and that's what the story is about. There are plenty of events where the people just relax and have good time but definitely not too much or it would become boring.

Yes, it is truly amazing my comrade; Aero is writing days about nothing, yet it is very interesting:

20th of June, end. 21st of June, end. 22nd of June, end. 23rd of June, end...

Ah, das Gem?t ist los!
