Wow, am I the only one to actually bring something other anime to the table here? Shouldn't this thread just be renamed as "Anime/Manga Thread V2"?

Hope you enjoyed the western culture as well. Bye.

One of my favourites: Ser Davos Seaworth, a smuggler, turned knight, turned Admiral, Lord, and Hand of the King, from A Song of Ice and Fire.

When you read A Game of Thrones, you'll easily find Eddard Stark as the centre of everything, and his honourable personality is reminiscent of typical fantasy heroes. And around 3/4 of AGoT, he dies like a wretch, executed by a petty brat of a king who thinks that killing him in front of a huge crowd will make him look 'tough'.

In A Clash of Kings, I quickly found Davos a perfect replacement for Eddard, and even moreso since he does not ascribe to honour so heedlessly and is not unaware of the dangers around him (like Eddard).

Despite his past as a lowborn smuggling pirate, he is one of the few truly honest men in Westeros. Rarely have I seen an 'everyman' character written so well or so lovingly. His chapters are unassuming, humble, and more moving than most, IMO. He only has to mention his wife and family once or twice and you already get a sense of his love for them: a proud father and a loving husband.

He's a nice guy to an impressive degree. When his king's former Hand (and his predecessor) is thrown into the dungeon for treason, Davos tries to defend the man and point out his good intentions so the king wouldn't kill him.

However, he's not blindly loyal to his king as usually perceived by most people, as when he has a boy smuggled out of the capital to save him from being burned alive as a sacrifice.

He never sweetens his words, even in situations where it would benefit him.

In the Crapsack World of Westeros, he is one of the two people whose moral compass does not get in the way and get them killed.
Along the shore the cloud waves break,
The twin suns sink behind the lake,
The shadows lengthen
In Carcosa.

Strange is the night where black stars rise,
And strange moons circle through the skies,
But stranger still is
Lost Carcosa.

Songs that the Hyades shall sing,
Where flap the tatters of the King,
Must die unheard in
Dim Carcosa.

Song of my soul, my voice is dead,
Die thou, unsung, as tears unshed
Shall dry and die in
Lost Carcosa.

Meh :P. Almost no one post in my thread, and the principles are different. I'll try to choose more characters from games...

Hope you enjoyed the western culture as well. Bye.

Sadly for you(or not...probably not), I'm not really into western culture. I'm not saying that it's bad, and I DO like some of it, but the japanese culture is the one that dominates me [-)

Hahaha, it's a girl this time!

Damn it, why does the image always get so big? I'm too lazy to fix them myself :P.

Ryougi Shiki, as you can see, is a girl(really!) from the light novel Kara no Kyoukai (the image is from the movie adaptation The Garden of Sinners. Yes, a anime movie).

Why I like her?...She's a girl!...Okay, it's not because of that(that would be racism :P).

1. She isn't kidding as you can see in the image :o. She's a more-or-less human that died but that forgot it. I mean, because of some really problematic situations in the past, She keep getting less and less human-like. In the end, only her body was left and, perphaps, some feelings. I'm not speaking figuratively, she REALLY kept getting less human, but it's a little complicated to explain it. I can say it's related to her powers.

2. The knife, the ability, the eyes, nothing more.Yet this girl is so OP that she would be banned in all games :o. Of course he has the special power to help(see it?), but even without them she would still be a incredible assassin.

3. Dat eyes [-)! Her power comes from them, but even without them she would still keep the power(don't ask me how...). Mystic Eyes of Death Perception is the name, and the name kinds of give a explanation of what she can do. To see death that is. Well, in fact, the true name would be something like  Mystic Eyes of Origin Perception, or Eyes of Divine Perception, something like that, but I won't get into details because the post would get too long.

4. "If God exists, I can kill it" ... ... ...  :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o. Okay, I'm not atheist, but how many characters do you know that compare themselves to God? I know lots! But they are all suckers, and they aren't really that powerful(Some are though). This girl, however, is something else, and can even make me believe that she could actually kill God. Oh, and such excuse as "Something so abstract doesn't have a life/can't die to begin with." She doesn't care :P, and watch your mouth, some people here are religious(I think).

Ugh, yet again I mentioned religion. Please don't kill me guys, I'm not really criticizing any :P.

I would have to say my favorite character is Gatharoth.

Gatharoth doesn't have a picture for him. D=

He is actually a character of my own creation.

The idea on how he looks is a very beautiful angel, that has hands and feet of a demon. And the most evil and blood thirsty expression you can think of.

I have different variations of him, the two major ones are

1: An extremely intelligent, but blood thirsty person. Who has scientific knowledge thousands of years beyond the current knowledge. Which he uses to create monsters that terrorize the world, and defend himself in his bastion.

2: A very cunning, and emotionless being that loves nothing more than to indulge itself in tearing the flesh and tormenting any other living creature. It uses it's beauty, charm, and any other method to lure prey into it's traps.

The reasons why he is my favorite is as follows.

  • For when I need to squelch some evil desires, I can come up with a story using him instead of actually doing those desires.
  • It was very fun creating him and his various background stories. Even though I finally settled on one.
  • He is one of my testimonies to "beauty not being everything".
  • He is what I think of when I think of an evil being. Something that uses everything it has, even if it's beauty, to get what it desires.
  • At one point, I had gotten blocked with creativity, and was only doing things that were pretty much dark/evil. It wasn't until I created him that I was no longer blocked. So I guess you could say, he is the final design for things that was evil/dark; For me anyway.
  • But still the main reason is that I had a lot of fun messing with this character, creating backgrounds, personalities, ect.

megma: Your character is awesome. I don't think it's bad to put a character you made as your favorite. Self-esteem in the first place ;D(besides the character is really good as I said already). I think I like the second variation more though.

Well, that said, now I'm really afraid of you :P. Please don't kill me. I'm a good guy :).

No, I didn't run out of characters, I just wasn't in the mood to post more ::)

Here we go!

Ha! A smaller image now!

Plain, simple anime guy and yet a really good character for me. He's Kyon from The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi. His true name wasn't given in any part of the series(neither the anime and the novel), so he's called Kyon.

Why do I like him?

...Beats me. Actually, I like him for his situation. A "so normal" human being in a "not normal at all" situation. But I guess I like him for some reasons.

1. His ability of reasoning is pretty amazing. Nothing out of the normal, but he's quite intelligent. He's kind of cold when it comes to surprises or unnatural situations. Of course, he can't manage a death-life situation with that face in the image, he's a normal human after all.

2. Ah, the irony. Nothing really special or complicated, but he's good with irony. I mean, since the novel happens around his perspective, we can often see what he's thinking. I'm not really a big fan of irony, but a good one always make me laugh [-). The comedy in the novel(and anime) is pretty much more than half(in my opinion almost all) of it made of his comments and thoughts.

3. In a situation that he can't change, Kyon pities himself while comparing his situation with some mistake a big idiot(him) made. Something like: "A situation of some idiot who pushed a big red button that clearly had 'Don't Push' written all over it, and then started a time bomb. This idiot now has to carry the bomb all the time while waiting for it to explode, but it doesn't have a timer, so he doesn't know when it'll happen. He can't dispose of it either, because he can't find a proper place to do so, what's more, the bomb is glued in his hands with super glue. And the worst thing is, it isn't known what will happen when it explodes. Perphaps the world will come to an end, perphaps it is just some kid's toy and nothing will happen it all. The idiot is me, the bomb is Suzumiya, and who knows what will happen...". Some other comparisons are also made.

4. A simple, yet mysterious character. Even if he's, in theory, plain and normal, no one knows much about him. No one in the story actually knows why he's in a such ridiculous situation while he is only a normal human being(in fact, some actually know why, but don't know the explanation for it). Neither his name nor much of his past are revealed. Yet, such a normal person wouldn't have a epic or sad history to tell. In fact, he probably don't talk much about his past because he doesn't think it's really worthy telling it.

5. He has a weird general knowledge, making some random references to famous(or not that much) people or facts in history. It's not like he has a ridiculous amount of knowledge...I would say that he does his homework [-). Perphaps for this reason and some others, he doesn't really believe in anything. He also has cultural, religious and some other knowledge in the area, but he doesn't(didn't) really believe in gods, aliens, monsters, unnatural and not normal things. It's almost looks like the world is making fun of him, since he's situation would be, for many other people and also himself, unbelieveable.

Like I said, I don't have much complaints of him, and I really think his situation is pretty amazing, so I decided to put him here. A epic and amazing character? Not at all, but he's a good character for many reasons.

A character who was written so well that I have come to absolutely detest him: Tywin Lannister from A Song of Ice and Fire. I often see Tywin characterised as cold, measured, rational, unemotional, controlled, pragmatic, and overall a ruthlessly efficient politician; that's for sure. On the other hand, he is utterly amoral, a horrible father, and a sorry excuse for a human being.

He has a special mix of an utter callousness for human life, a flagrant disregard for justice, duty, loyalty or honour, completel lack of any personal code, a twisted, oft indulged cruelty and no redeeming tragic background to excuse any of it.

He keeps constantly on hand bloodthirsty monsters like Gregor Clegane and Vargo Hoat, is completely uncritical of their actions, and is always willing to use them. His tactics in war are incredibly dirty and underhanded. He will **** and pillage and torture as a tactic. Flying false banners. He will not blink to murder children. He doesn't give a **** about human lives, except when it fits him.

You might say that he brought peace to the realm during the 20 years he served as Aerys the Mad King's Hand. What peace? The kind of peace that exploded into a rebellion that swept up half the realm at the drop of couple of roses. He was flagrantly disloyal, at the end, of course. But before that - he was utterly unreliable. We saw how much he cared about the kingdom, how willing he was to leave it in Aerys' mad hands the moment it doesn't serve his interests anymore.

And then we have Tywin the father. He only cares about his elder children Cersei and Jaime as extensions to his own power and legacy, and there was almost nothing of actual parental love in his behaviour, and what he'd done to his dwarf son Tyrion was purely malicious and outright not efficient to any personal goal - he hated him simply for being an ugly dwarf in a family with a reputation of having good looks, and for his frequent whoring.

He also doesn't understand one bit about his children at all. He always raised Jaime as his heir, even after he disinherited himself by joining the Kingsguard - Tywin simply thought he'd release him from his vows and have him inherit; in reality, Jaime cared more about fighting than ruling his lands. Cersei, well,... one of the only few good things we ever hear about Tywin was that he smiled for Cersei. Good job parenting there, considering she was murdering her friends as a preteen.

And now Tysha. Tyrion married her, a commoner girl, without his permission, and she was **** by an entire garrison, to teach Tyrion a lesson. This isn't measured, rational, unemotional. Its bizarre. Over the top. A piece of pure, gleeful theater of torture and cruelty, topped off with the lies, the money, forcing Tyrion to go last. This is what he did to his son for daring to fall in love with someone he found inappropriate. Thats not how anyone with a shred of maturity, or a conscience, would deal with the situation.

Finally, his end in ASoS was as satisfying as it could be. Tyrion found him in his bed, sleeping with Shae, his ****; and, remembering of what he did to Tysha, Tyrion strangled Shae to death and confronts him in the privy. Even as Tyrion has him at crossbow-point with his pants down, he keeps badmouthing Tyrion's wife and treating his son like a joke. Tyrion does not take it well... Such a fitting end for a monster.

Compare him to Eddard Stark. His honour got him killed, but also ensured the undying loyalty of nearly all of his bannermen after his death; while even though everyone in the Seven Kingdoms fears him for his power and prodigious mind, none of them cared a **** about him after his death, with Jaime refusing to leave the Kingsguard to succeed Tywin, Tyrion exiled, and Cersei quickly running the realm to the ground with her madness. When his competent brother Kevan takes over the regency, he is killed because he is the only man who can keep the Lannister regime from collapsing. Now with Kevan dead, I'm eagerly waiting to see how spectacularly the Lannisters fall in tWoW.

It is ironic how the actions of a man always obsessed with his family's legacy have just been facilitating the downfall of his very house.
