Galeoth's Sanctuary
« on: April 15, 2013, 06:44:16 am »
I feel that our forum lacks seriousness (or maybe there is none to begin with) so I think it is worth a shot to bring some thought-provoking topics to the site and see if interesting events pop up.

Since I plan to make this non-existent (yet) sub-forum a place for those wishing to engage in serious Internet discussions, I would like to present a few rules to keep the intended atmosphere and prevent this from withering into the regular off-topic.

#1/ You must use proper and formal English when posting. You are not allowed to use shorthand words and phrases (ur, u, atm, btw, yo, lmao, rofl,etc.). If you do not have the time to put some actual thoughts to your posts, then don't post. You don't need perfect English but your posts must be comprehensible, clear and not obscured by countless typos and grammar flaws. However, proper English is always recommended.

#2/ You are not allowed to flame, insult, offend others in your posts. Wise gentlemen discuss their different points of view concerning a particular topic, not shoving them into others' face. Failing to comply to this rule means that from that point onwards, all your future posts in these topics will be deleted (I will enforce that myself). You will also receive punishments based on the site rules. If you are able to provide an alternative interpretation of your posts and that everything was a misunderstanding or a failure to communicate, your posts will not be considered violations. The enforcers are bound to consult you before a post deletion.

#3/ Irrelevant, off-topic posts/materials will be deleted with a warning given to the violator(s). Three consecutive violations and you will receive punishments based on the extent of your actions.

#4/ All posts must follow the site rules. Violatiors will be punished accordingly.

These rules should be the basic ones. I will revise and update them should the need arise. I am also thinking of a method to grant this sub-forum's membership to other members. Nevermind this.

For now, this sub-forum will be called Galeoth's Sanctuary.

Feel free to discuss below.

New topics will be opened with special titles like this: [Galeoth's Sanctuary] <Topic Name> to distinguish them from regular off-topic ones.

It would be even better to have a sub-forum reserved for this but it is entirely up to you.

How do you do that membership? Bah, no need to. I think just everyone can post there but really have to be serious with their post. Or maybe a punishment if trolling / doing stupid enough posts.

Restrictions are stupid. Hive's section once had that restriction and it was so stupid.

Then you will be the one to enforce serious punishment then? I will handle the small ones.

Rules updated.

since this thread ain't IN that very subforum, i guess this tone is allowed here.

i gotta ask, did the bias thread inspire u to do this or what? the timing at least seems too much of a coincidence, unless of course you hated what i said back there. nonetheless, i think the choice for name is very good.

this sounds pretty kay on paper, but i'm just concerned about the following:

Quote
Failing to comply to this rule means that from that point onwards, all your future posts in these topics will be deleted (I will enforce that myself).

1 small misinterpretation and u'll be cursed for life? it is possible. while the writer should type his text so that there isn't the slightest of possibility of that text interpretated incorrectly, u gotta ask urself, do i have to fear for something like that simply coz the rules were made tough? i've personally already experienced such, that my post wasn't understood the way i wanted it to be, and it was removed. it is like banning bots; u have to be 100% sure that the person IS botting and not just ban him coz his appearance was bot-like.

You can always explain to Doom/Aero a misunderstanding by PM or in the chat(when it's back, of course). The problems would be a clear disrespect, that also includes your "u"s and "coz"s(I know you wouldn't put this in the actual forum). About these posts that weren't understood, weren't they that "tauren conspiracies" that Aero mentioned? What was misunderstood there :P?

And Doom, since I saw nothing on the rules, I'll keep using emoticons in these serious conversations [-). Why? Because I can!

explain via pm or chat? dah, that's so boring, lol. let me tell you why:

this is based on a true story; a 18-year-old is driving his car and wants to turn left from the next junction. he has to stop due to the red traffic light and a guy in his 30s drives behind the 18-year-old to also turn left. the traffic light turns green but the 18-year-old doesn't move coz his car turned off. while hurrying to turn it on again, the guy in his 30s gets frustrated over the wait.

now you'd think that an average driver would just sound the horn reasonably instead of overreacting, but what does the older man do in this case? he leans to the horn with his arm and gives the 18-year-old a bored look.

because overreacting is serious business

end of storytime

as for the misunderstood posts, it wasn't just those posts, there was also another that was posted after the bias thread and it wasn't in the bias thread.

And Doom, since I saw nothing on the rules, I'll keep using emoticons in these serious conversations [-). Why? Because I can!

like a boss :)

Brilliant idea Doom , let me start with a topic that's been bothering me for some time.

Off topic is the place where we can talk like civilised people about things that are not related to the campaign in any way , correct? However , like Doom said , there is a limit. You cannot talk about anything and must talk in a proper way.

So why do both members and mods request the conversations that have been held on another board to be sent to off-topic as a new thread?First of all, it's not fair at all.If two members are arguing if McDonnalds is better then KFC in an open thread , other people may interfeere(Which is legit).
But the 2 may be like "Nobody asked you , gtfo".If you want to talk to someone about something without having anyone else interupt you , send him messages.

If you do wish to initiate a conversation(or more) about a legit subject in which can partake up to an endless number of members , only then you can create a new thread.

It pains me when I see elites telling members to move to off-topic everytime they hold a little conversation.

Like I said In one post , off-topic is not the place in which you can do whatever you want , it is not the trash can of TCO and the rules that apply to the rest of the site apply to off-topic also.Therefor I ask both the members and the mods to be more carefull with the words that they adress to other members when they are discussing something off-topic.

Thank you Aero.

Thank you jael, I updated the rules. And no, it is not the bias thread that inspires me.

Thank you Shino, Black for participating and sharing your opinions.
