Competition #31

Competition Idea

In this competittion you're challenged to create a puzzle that includes respawning enemies and crystal theme. There have to be somekind of unique way killing the enemies. The place is part of an optional quest in chapter 8.

Hints

    • Try to make the puzzle unique.
    • Try not to make it resemble any other puzzles.
    • Make it challenging, so that player doesn't solve it in few minutes.
    • There could be hints how to solve the puzzle.
    • You'll decide how many enemies, what type, etc. Remember theme must be crystal. Currently I have crystal golems only there.
    • I'll create the terrain to this ice cavern after I've decided what kind of puzzle add here and what kind of terrain it will need.

    Competition Rules

      • The idea have to be yours.
      • You can make unlimited amount of entries.
      • I will have all the rights to edit the rules all the time(I will do it correctly and I will be fair for everyone).

      Competition Prizes

The winner of this competition will have his or her name to Hall Of Fame and will be credited as "Competition Winners" and "Idea Giver". If you have one more than once you'll be credited automatically as "Great Idea Giver". Also any other ideas that I'll use will be credited as "Idea Giver".

      Judging

I'm the only one who will judge the winner of the competition. I will judge all entries. The amount of entries you post will not decrease your chance to win in any way. However, if there are a lot of entries or horrible entries, I'll have the right to kick some of them away in order to make the final judge easier for me.

This is the order how I judge:

        • Is your idea creative and fresh?
        • Can I possibly create your idea?
        • The presentation?

        Deadline

The competition begins immediately and conclude 16.11.2011.

        Final Words

Good luck, may the best idea win. If you have questions, ask.

        Hello,

I would perhaps have an idea that has just existed in my head for sometime now, which could fit in here, but I'm concerned that in the end it would turn out to be a mini-game rather than a puzzle.

So is it a must to make it a puzzle? Because if so, I'll not take the risk.

Number of enemies: 4 Crystal Golems.
Description: Every 10 seconds a crystal will appear in a random spot for 5s. The player is required to lure one of the golem near the crystal to freeze it for 5s. Only a frozen golem can be killed w/o respawning. Puzzle is completed when all golems are killed.

Disclaimer: Since there are so many factors affecting this game, I might've forgotten to mention something, so if you think there's something that can be cheated, notify me.

Race for the Crystal Dust of Strengthening

        Description:

The main goal of this puzzle / mini-game is to collect 12 pouches of crystal dust, which are guarded by the crystal golems themselves.

There are 8 spawn points on the edges across the arena. When the game begins, one pouch has already spawned on one of them. As the dragon slayers make their way and collect it, there's a 5 to 20 seconds delay before a new pouch appears randomly on one of the spawn points again. You must pick up a pouch or the delay doesn't continue to count.

        How everything works:

        - As mentioned before, there are twelve pouches in total - However, when someone collects them, they don't do anything by sitting in your backpack. Instead, consuming the crystal dust strengthens the consumer, granting 100 bonus health & mana, 10 damage and 1 armor permanently with each pouchful.

        - Target is to gather all of the pouches, but if anyone eats a pouch of dust before all of them are gathered, one pouch automatically vanishes off from the total count, so for example, when you've collected one pouch, eating it reduces the total number of spawned pouches to 11. This applies even if you've collected 11 and the last pouch has appeared; eating any of the 11 causes the last untouched pouch to disappear.

        - To make things even worse, the guardian golems have a 25% chance to steal one pouch from a dragon slayer when attacking. Without a pouch to carry, their movement speed is the maximum available, in order not to be outrun by the dragon slayers. Once they gain a pouch, their movement speed is zero'd.

        - Upon stealing a pouch back from a dragon slayer, that guardian golem is willing to eat the dust itself in order not to let the dragon slayers gain their power. The delay before consuming the pouch is determined by golem's endurance, and if the dragon slayers succeed to kill it before the wait is over, they re-gain the pouch.

        - Golems cannot be attacked unless they have a pouch; dragon slayers cannot be attacked unless they carry at least one pouch.

        - At start, there's one golem per spawn point, which are brought to life by stealing a pouch from a spawn point. If a golem is killed, another golem is spawned from the point it was guarding and sent to attack the closest dragon slayer with a pouch.

        - Only four pouches per dragon slayer can be carried at a time, cannot be dropped upon taking.

        - Once all the available pouches have been taken by the dragon slayers, the game ends and remaining golems are killed. The reward is based on luck (steal chance) and if you chose to or not to eat any of the dust.

        - It is optional, if there's a time limit or not. Personally I think there should be, but I'm not able to tell a balanced time limit...

As ch8 is filled with ice , i will posts ideas that have to do something with galeoth.

        So my ideea is:

-galeoth is teleported to a collum in the middle of the area , where he could attack the monsters near him.
-Near the collum is a cristal that Galeoth has to attack.
-The cristal has a huge amount of mp.
-Galeoth can take down his mp , but every time galeoth casts a spell on him , the cristal will randomly summon a huge golem or 2 little ones.
-The golems will attack Phodom and Fradz
-The little golems MUST be finished with one of phodom's spells or spell books to decrease the cristal's main mana.If they are finished by one of fradz's spells or by a regular attack , the cristal's mana increases.
-The big golems MUST be finished with one of fradz's spells or spell books to decrease the cristal's main mana.If they are finished by one of phodon's spells or by a regular attack , the cristal's mana increases.
-When the cristal reaches 0 mana , it turns into a collossal(i think i misspelled that) ice golem , and Galeoth teleports from the collum to help the heroes.
-The ice golem MUST be finished with one of galeoth's spells or spell books , if not , he turns back into a cristal(With a lesser amount of mana) and Galeoth is teleported  back to the collum.

The cristal's main health is 99999999999999999 so the players can't kill him.But his mana has to be something regular that can be destroyed with Magic Tornament or Magic hammer. And if the mana is something like 50 000 , then the cristal loses 10 000 mana per big golem and 5 000 mana per little golem. It gains 5 000 mana per big golem(if it's killed by the wrong hand) and 2 500 mana per little golem. Also , the cristal's mana regen has to be big , like 50mp/sec.

You should also give some hard-to-understand intructions. For example the name of the big golem is Feed me with fire , and the name of the little golem is feed me with lightning.
And the collossal golem's name should be - I detest ice.
This will make the players use their whole mind to figure out what to do.IF they want to be feeded with lightning that means they don't like fire.Or something like that.
It's not that hard to be made , after all :D.

        Hello,

Black, although I like your idea, I would like to share something with you:

        1) As you suspected, you did spell wrong: "collossal" -> "colossal".

        2) Unless I recall wrong, maximum health of any unit in warcraft 3 is 5 000 000 (except if one can increase it even further with triggers or similar, and of course heroes gain health from strength), and "99999999999999999" would be a very uninspiring value anyways.

        3) As for your "complicated instructions" (changed from "hard-to-understand instructions"), well, let's just say that back when TCO was on the early alpha phase, I was horrible when it came to triggering maps, so in some cases I did this stupid thing and named units with something as terrible as those "feed me with fire".

Don't get me wrong, I like it when puzzles / mini-games are hard, but in my opinion those "complicated instructions" should be presented in a completely different way. :/ (And that is, of course, assuming that people can realise the point / idea.)

        Second entry >:D.

The ideea of this puzzle it's unique , yet preety simple :D.[/color]

Sooo , there are x spawning places at the corners and in the middle of the area , there is a viking statue(the model

        http://www.hiveworkshop.com/forums/models-530/vikingstatue-49051/?prev=search%3Dstatue%26d%3Dlist%26r%3D20

        )
At the begaining , the statue is completly blue.

Event1-From the spawning places , some little ice golems are charging till the middle , in order to attack the satue(The satatue has a limited ammount of HP and no hp regen). With every little ice golem down , the statue's blueness begain 2 fade , till it reaches it's normal colour.
Event2-When the statue reaches it's normal colour ,  bigger ice golems start to charge(They are stronger) till the middle. With every bigger Ice golem down , the statue is starting to turn yellow.
Event3-When the statue reaches yellow , gigantic ice golems start to charge(they are almost invincible , so that the player can't kill one in about 3 minutes). After 3 minutes a cutscene shows up:

Phodom:Damn these golems , let's just leave this cursed statue , and get the hell out of here!
Galeoth:We can't just leave it , inside there is a spirit , I can feel it!
Fradz:Oh realy? What if I talk to this "spirit"?
        Galeoth:Fradz...yo-
Fradz:Hey you dumb ****!Why are the golems chasing you?Oh wait , you can't run , cuz you're a **** statue!

The statue explodes turning into a warrior(here , here

        )

        NoNameCuzI'mDrunk:Hwo dares insult NoNameCuzI'mDrunk?
        Fradz:Phodom!
        Phodom:That's his name honorable warrior!
NoNameCuzI'mDrunk:I would kill you , but I owe ye' , let's finish these golems!

Event4-NoNameCuzI'mDrunk helps the heroes  , but the golems are still coming in from tnowhere.Another cutscene:

Phodom stops the ground and says:Damn!
NoNameCuzI'mDrunk:You don't know how to use that hammer mate'!
        Phodom:What?
NoNameCuzI'mDrunk empowers Phodom's strenght , then Phodoms slams the ground , all the golems @ him die.
        Phodom:Incredible!
        NoNameCuzI'mDrunk:I know mate , I know.

Ofc , NoNameCuzI'mDrunk expalins hwo he is(a dragon slayer , or a warrior , half dragon etc) , then tells Phodom the bless he used is permanent. So the reward should be +X strenght to Phodom.

NoNameCuzI'mDrunk is a random name , change it PLZ:))

        Hello,

Black... I know you love to use the fierce words of which we discussed about earlier, but even if they could fit Fradz's personality, is it necessarily needed?

I see you wanted to add all kinds of BB codes to your presentation, but if you do so, why can't you do them properly? There's a couple really horrible errors with them there. :(

        Hello, the judge is speaking!

This is important competition for chapter 8 because I desperately need something interesting into that icy cavern. So let's hope you guys have some nice ideas I could use.

Doomlord idea is about trapping crystals. Very simple, but not a bad idea. I could use this idea but not here: I neeed something a little more complicated.

        2,5 / 5

After reading DD Canada's idea I have multiple good and bad feelings about it. I like the basic structure of this puzzle idea but I don't like few things like the stealing part. It can be very annoying for player. You just stole an item and then it's stolen back already... Overall you gave a great effort to this and I'll do similar puzzle to the new remade chapter 3. The basic idea is yours.

        3 / 5

Blackdoom59 gave one total new I like is that there's statue that cannot fightning by itself, but will summon some enemies. However, I'm not so warm to the idea where player must kill enemies with X abilities or spells. Also I got a little similar puzzle idea already in this chapter. This idea gave me a great idea for a new mini-boss.

        2,5 / 5

Blackdoom59's second idea is more likely an optional quest than a puzzle so nope. However I like the idea that a random guy would help the dragon slayers...

        0 / 5

...And the winner is DD Canada!
