Competition Idea

I have run out of boss ideas for this boss so I'll need few more. The idea of this competition is to create a boss spell for the ice draggon in the picture. The best ideas will be used for this awesome boss fight in chapter 8.

Hints

    • This is chapter 8's epic boss
    • Don't worry about balance, I'll do that(no need to give damage values)
    • The idea can also be a passive idea
I separate every boss fight to these categories(you can create your idea from any of these categories):
      • Spells: Usually basic Blizzard made spells but there can be sometimes more unique moves
      • Mini-Events: Special moves that happens pretty often(every 10 to 40 seconds)
      • Events: Also special moves that happens rarely(every 30 to 120 seconds)
      • Passives: Can happen anyway, can be pretty random also
And here is an example boss fight for a red dragon(chapter 9 elite boss):

      Spoiler (hover to show)

      Competition Rules

        • The idea have to be yours.
        • You can make unlimited amount of entries.
        • I will have all the rights to edit the rules all the time(I will do it correctly and I will be fair for everyone).

        Competition Prizes

The winner of this competition will have his or her name to Hall Of Fame and will be credited as "Competition Winners" and "Idea Giver". If you have one more than once you'll be credited automatically as "Great Idea Giver". Also any other ideas that I'll use will be credited as "Idea Giver".

        Judging

I'm the only one who will judge the winner of the competition. I will judge all entries. The amount of entries you post will not decrease your chance to win in any way. However, if there are a lot of entries or horrible entries, I'll have the right to kick some of them away in order to make the final judge easier for me.

This is the order how I judge:

          • Does your idea fit with the model?
          • Is your idea creative and fresh?
          • Is the idea understandable?
          • Can I possibly create your idea?

          Deadline

The competition begins immediately and conclude 2.11.2011.

          Final Words

Good luck, may the best idea win. If you have questions, ask. I'll make this boss battle after the competition is over.

I'm assuming the ice dragon is not stationary but moves and that the arena is the usual circular type.

Standard Attack: Ranged 800 units. (frosty type animation). However his standard attack should be non-tracking. i.e. it targets an area and the frost flies towards that area. So it is dodge-able if your hero is moving.

          Spoiler (hover to show)

Spell 1 - (Passive) Each of his standard attacks upon impact with the ground produces an iceberg with 400HP.  After 3 seconds if the iceberg is not destroyed it shatters to reveal a baby dragon which of course will chase the player and attack them.

          Baby Dragon
Has a passive slow built in on each attack (5% stacking to 25% max). Additionally the baby dragon has it's type set to illusion, this way you can set items (Zwill Blade I think it's called) that give HP back when you kill a unit to not work on these baby dragons so the boss isn't too easy.

          Spoiler (hover to show)

Event 1 - (After performing 5 standard attacks) The dragon performs a swiping attack either by tail or claw (which ever is easier to animate) that attacks a cone shape area directly in front of it (300 units range) doing heavy damage to those hit.

          Spoiler (hover to show)

Event 2 - (When boss at 70% HP) The dragon walks to the center of the area, charges up a beam and fires at the direction of the player (the dragon cannot move or turn while firing). The beam leaves a deposit of icicles to form a wall. Since the dragon is in the center of the area this line of icicles forms a wall with length (radius of the arena) stretching from the center to the edge of the arena.

          Spoiler (hover to show)

Event 3 - (When boss at 30% HP) The dragon lets out a roar of pain and charges furiously towards the left of the arena, destroying the arena wall revealing a second arena to the left. Upon the player following through to the next arena, the passage way collapses and blocks the player from reentering.

          Spoiler (hover to show)

Cutscene - (Shows the heroes entering the new chamber). From black screen fade in to view a whole chamber of dragon eggs with many elder dragons guarding the eggs and the main boss in the center.

          Dialogue
          G: My lord!....
          Dragons: Lots of roars~
          G: Run!
(Lots of dragons run towards the heroes, the heroes run south into a long corridor)

Corridor - This arena is long shapes like a long gauntlet. Control resumes and you can utilise overhead text on top of the characters.

          Spoiler (hover to show)

          G: Run!

(Player proceeds to run south along the corridor, screen shakes to simulate dragons chasing every few seconds)

          P: But the dragons?!
G: There are too many here, we can't fight them.
          P: There must be something

(Continue running, all this is player controlled. Note the dragons never actually catch up (or seen), this is the similar effect used in many RPG's where and event is occuring but you can't actually fail it yet.)

As the player runs past some pillars.

G: Look there, those pillars. We can bury them
P: I'll take the left you take the right

(Dragon appears at the start of the gauntlet and starts moving at a slow pace)

          Spoiler (hover to show)

Players are required to make there way down the gauntlet destroying all the pillars to collapse the cave (A counter on the top right will show how many left to destroy). Along the gauntlet there are dragon eggs that hatch to provide resistance (enemies) to fight. Each pillar destroyed triggers the 'rock falling from ceiling warcraft animation'.

After enough pillars have been destroyed (i.e. at the end of the arena) a cutscene plays showing the crumbling of the cave (similar animations available from standard campaign) and the heroes emerging just before it happens.

          [continue on with story]....etc...

So now Xirenza is a blue dragon?
Along the shore the cloud waves break,
The twin suns sink behind the lake,
          The shadows lengthen
          In Carcosa.

Strange is the night where black stars rise,
And strange moons circle through the skies,
          But stranger still is
          Lost Carcosa.

Songs that the Hyades shall sing,
Where flap the tatters of the King,
          Must die unheard in
          Dim Carcosa.

Song of my soul, my voice is dead,
Die thou, unsung, as tears unshed
          Shall dry and die in
          Lost Carcosa.

No, no, no. That's still Lavareon. I just wanted to change coz' it looks a bit stupid to have a fire dragon battle in this chapter... It just doesn't work.

Spell1-(Every time the boss looses 5%hp)The dragon calls a blizzard in a wide area , the blizzard deals low damage , however it forces the player to move his heroes from that area.
Spell2-(Every time the boss is hited by a single target spell)The dragon roars , leaving the heroes with -300 magic damage and -50 magic damage(for x seconds)

          Event1-(Boss has 75%hp)
Dragon:I will show you no mercy!
          Galeoth:Oh no!Everyone brace yourselfs!
The dragon moves to a corner of the boss fight area(becoming invulnerable) , there , he starts breathing projectiles to random spots on the boss fight area(25seconds).

          Event2-(Boss has 50%hp)
Dragon:May the icy horrors strike you down , mortals!
Fradz:These cute little snowmans? Are you kiding dragy?
          Dragon:WRAATH!
Galeoth:Fradz , these monsters are eating magic!Stay away from them!
The dragon summons three ice monsters(ice monster has fast atack speed and fast movement speed , while he has low hp and verry low damage,  but with feedback attack) to attack each hero. Then he flows to the sky where he starts to breath waves of magic to the ice monsters. Each waves heals the ice monsters and damages everything near them(15seconds).

          Event3-(Boss has 25%hp)
Dragon:How...How can you defeat me....No moral can kill...a dragon!
Phodom:But we are met to do such!We are Dragon Slayers!
Dragon:Ahh..I see , well then let us contiune, mwhahahahah.
          Fradz:Want more ass-kicking dragy!
Dragon:So, you do can defeat a dragon ,but will your own heart , let you defeat-a human?
*The dragon vanishes , and turns himself in a pure sapphire*
Galeoth:A..A pure sapphire! This emerald is verry rare!Only a single tuch!
Fradz:Old geezer , it's sure some kind of trap!
          Phodom:Galeoth wait!GALEOOOTH!
*Galeoth takes the sapphire , then becoming hostile(Without items , but with a huge ammount of damage )*
          Fradz:He's...changed...
          Phodom:Fradz , this is bad!
Galeoth keeps attacking the players  while he has only 20% of his maximum life(2 minutes). If the  heroes kill Galeoth , the game is over.
Spell3-Every 30 seconds , galeoth sends an icy wave that deals damage

          Event4-(2 minutes pass)
          Galeoth:Get...Out...Of my...Head
Dragon:Wraaaath...mortal...you will pay for what you have done!
          Fradz:Well , I have only 20 pieces , dragy , what about you?Stu-
*The boss turns Phodom and Fradz in Ice cristals , making them useless*
          ? ? ?:Pitifull...
          Galeoth:How dare you!
Dragon:I may be weakened , but I will destroy you mortal!

Spell1 now has a larger area.

          Event5-(Boss has 5%hp)
          Dragon:Damn you...mortal!
Galeoth:You dragons are always the same!Empowered...but you don't know how to use that power!
          Dragon:You...belive so?You...insult...your own ...creator?
          Galeoth:Creator?
          Dragon:All...in time...ahhhh...
*The dragon dies in an epic way*
          Fradz:-pid dragon?
          Phodom:He's dead Fradz!
          Fradz:Bah!
          Phodom:Thanks to Galeoth...
          Galeoth:No problem my friends.

I think we need at least one more entry before I start to judge. I'll increase the deadline.

Also remember that I'm judging spell or event ideas not some big one thing. Dialogues may give extra points but not much.

EDIT: To make things very clear for example this is one entry:

"Every 10 second a random point explodes(deals 3000/4000/5000/6000 damage) in 3 seconds(pretty easy to evade) and this tileset becomes lava. If a player's unit is in a lava tileset it takes 5% of max hp damage per second."

You don't need to think a whole fight. Just one boss spell idea. It can be simple or complicated it's up to you. The idea matters and that's what I'll judge.

          Hello, here comes the judge.

We got three participant here this time but a lot of entries so I'll judge few best ideas from each person expect from DD Canada because he has only one entry.

          Let's start with DD Canada!

          Pros & Cons:

+ I see some good potential here
+ I got some own ideas from this entry
          - I don't see a way to evade this
          - I think the idea is half done

          1,5 / 5

...And then we go to Blackdoom59...

          Blizzard

          + Simple, yet good idea
+ Makes player to move in the battle arena
          + Very easy to do
          - A little too similar to Faerga's rain of fire

          3 / 5

          Event 2

+ Basic "boss summons enemies" with a twist that they explode, simple yet tactical

          2,5 / 5

...And about that a character turning to Hostile I'll check if it's possible but I fear it is not(things start to bug). And to Skasian...

          Event 2

+ I like the wall thing, could give some to the battle
          - I fear that the wall could make the battle bug, I mean the boss could trap himself

          3 / 5

          Event 3

+ I like that there would be a second area and a phase, it would improve the boss fight a lot

          3,5 / 5

...Okay so let's see. We got some new great ideas here from each participant. I'll have to say that the idea of making another area is the most impressive one here. I haven't done any boss battle with the area expanding. So yeah that's something I'll do in the future. Skasian wins.

I liked the Blizzard thing because it's somewhat tactical. The blizzards will stay in the battle forever making the battle harder further you fight. It's very simple and easy to do, yet it gives more tactical elements to the fight.

I gave it 3 / 5 because the idea is perfect, but it isn't unique(coz' I've used this type of idea before).

And about your entry, it was just about giving a unit buff and after 10 seconds either the buff works and decreases unit's mana to zero or doesn't do anything. I simple don't understand how this is tactical and unique. I still see there's potetntial but this is half done.

There could be things to evade this or make this more dangerous. For example, within 10 seconds player must do something so that the buff wears off. Or like after 10 second has passed all units around this unit will also lose their mana. In this case however there should be some kind of timer like in Faerga battle. Just examples to make the idea better.

First of all , congradz 2 skasy , then:
You DON't have to make Galeoth hostile.HAve imagination , you can teleport him outside the map , so the player can't control him , and create a new unit called galeoth. After the unit galeoth dies , teleport the hero Galeoth  back in the map. It's easy and efficient.
