Who told you that? Spell damage has two types:

• Physical Damage, reduced by armor
• Magical Damage, reduced by magic resistance

As far as i know, all spells/skills in TCO Campaign deal magical damage, thus remain unaffected by armor value. I said armor value, not armor type.
