So here's my idea for the fourth profession
« on: March 19, 2013, 09:39:07 am »
Hello,

Here are my thoughts about the fourth profession.

The basic idea is that player can find 5 different type of orbs just about anywhere. The obs are: red, blue, yellow, green and purple. Then player must combine these orbs together to awaken their hidden powers(2 orb is one combination). When combined, a special passive thing is enchanted to the hero. The enchantment can be changed. The bonuses are totally passive and can be seen from the multiboard.

Here are some combinations so far I've been thinking:

Yellow + Yellow: If the hero dies from full health resurrects it. Has 60 second cooldown.
Every successful steal gives extra gold.
Red + Red: Every time Hero kills a unit the Hero gains health amount of Max Health the dying unit has.
Green + Red: Kills units instantly that are lower level than Hero.
When Health becomes less than 50% the hero gains 25% Evasion rate.

What do you think about this?

This profession seems quite random and forced. It is not like digging, stealing or alchemy that are practical and real stuff that can be done as professions. I was thinking of having other professions like mining, skinning etc.

Mining - Mine for ores, then u meld them into metals bars or jewels and use them in crafting/synthesis
Skinning - Once a creep dies, within 1 minute, skin it to get its fur/clothes/skin/scales etc. Then weave them into a cloth/leather etc to be used in crafting/synthesis.

Both your systems are too close to Synthesis. I quite don't like them.

My orb system is actually not used in other games so I like that it's unique. However, it needs a of improvements. I don't like it that much either in its current stage.

Maybe First Aid, where we find stuff and create first aid equipments like bandages, ointments, antiseptic etc to heal and cure debuffs?

well your campaign is so super-packed full of stuff to do that it takes many hours per chapter. it actually took me over 20 hours to get 100% clear on extreme and man, if you add more STUFF to do like a fourth profession, it just overflows your campaign.

look, when playing your TCO it feels like this:
you start playing and you are like aaaaaaaaaaaaw yeah, so much fun. then it gets a bit less fun and you are kinda just looking for epic bosses and then in chapter 8 and 9, it allready feels more like work. collecting all these flowers AGAIN? digging all the **** up AGAIN? not getting any hints on the elite and epic bosses AGAIN and have to search the map for 2 hours without finding anything?

as i said in multiple other threads and as i will say in every thread i see you talking about adding new things: improve on what you have instead of adding new stuff. your campaign has a lot of potential with the things it has if you smooth out gameplay and fix bugs. there's so much work to do and adding new stuff does not only bring new problems, it also takes the time away to fix the old ones.
for example rework the summons, rework alchemy, rework espers.
MORE isnt always better my friend.

Indeed. But there's four slots left.  :-[

I wanna use those slots, looks stupid if the panel is not full. That's why in the beginning I tried to think about the fourth profession. Maybe a hint description for each profession slot will make the panel full.

actually its very good if not all panels are used, it decreases the things the player has to read, keep in mind and think about. ofcourse for the people who played your campaign like 100 times it might be a nice little addition, but none of us is looking for nice little addition. rather think about some guy who just picks up on your campaign. the speed he gets into it is important, and now compare:

all your books and story elements, they are optional. you basically dont need them, but since your story is so catchy and touching, people just get into it and love it.
professions on the other hand, you have to use them or you at least feel like you have to. for example, when i played the very first time, i red all panels of information and even the STORY of digging and alchemy because i thought its important or anything, so before i actually started to play, i was using up about 30 minutes to get everything checked so im not going to miss some things i would have picked up on.

rather than filling those panels, i would remove the story of the three professions and make them available later on in the game. like, you get the story of digging after you dug up 20 things and the story of alchemy after picking 50 flowers and the story of stealing after having stolen 10 things etc.

like that you make the game progress smoother and dont throw too much information at the player at once. i mean, you start the campaign with a level 1 hero who doesnt know **** about stealing and alchemy, he only learns about their backgrounds later on after he actually quarrels with it.

empty panels dont look bad, they look promising.

What about Doomlord's idea previously.... http://tcocampaign.createaforum.com/index.php?topic=1269.0

"My idea is Lockpicking i.e the ability to unlock various locked chests scattered across the campaign. The profession goes like this: When you encounter a locked chest, you can use this 'Lockpicking' skill to try and pick it. If you successfully crack the chest, the item(s) inside will be yours. The chance to lockpick is %-based and can only be improved by buying better lockpicking tools (similiar to Bronze Shovel, Silver Shovel, ...). When you fail to open a chest, the lockpicking tool will be broken and require you to fix it, which cost a variable amount of gold (that raises depend on the tier of the lockpicking tool) and you have to wait 60 secs until it can be used again. The more powerful the item(s) inside, the smaller the chance to unlock the chest."

Other than my First Aid idea previously, we can also have a Cooking profession:
1. First, one needs to hunt for raw meat by using spears to kill land animals in the map, and nets to capture fishes in lakes and rivers. Better spears and nets can catch better animals (that gives more bonuses if u consumer their cooked meat) with a smaller chance of failure. Once a spear or net fails to catch an animal, they are spoiled and need to be repaired for a cost.
2. Second, one needs to cut down trees using a axe to get wood. Better axes can cut better trees with a smaller chance of failure. Once an axe fails to cut a tree, it is spoiled and needs to be repaired for a cost.
3. Thirdly, one needs to start a fire with the wood available and with a timberbox. Better wood and timberbox used will make the fire last longer with a smaller chance of failure. Once it fails to start a fire, the heroes will be burnt for some hp loss and the timberbox is spoiled and needs to be repaired for a cost.
4. Lastly, one can then cook the raw meat and hopefully it wouldnt be overcooked or something. If the food is overcooked then it has to be thrown away. Can only cook if there is a fire, i.e. if the fire burns out, one needs to start another fire. The cooked food can be kept to be consumed later to recover hp, mana and even add bonus stats temporarily, like increasing strength, agility, intell, hp, mp, attk dmg, magic dmg, armor, attack speed, movement speed, critical dmg, evasion, steal chance, gold bonus and exp bonus.

I agree with CoNteMpT.

I will give up on this case but I may come later to create a profession. But most likely not.
