Drawing Aggro (Tanking)
« on: November 08, 2011, 01:01:34 am »
The key concept behind the role of a tank is to:

"Draw aggro away from your DPS and support teammates and tank incoming damage"

The second part of that statement is fulfilled in this game but the 'Drawing Aggro' seems to be neglected.
Often in fights, Fradz will be suddenly targeted for no apparent reason and there is no way to stop the boss stupidly chasing him.

What I'm suggesting is a 'Taunt' type ability on Phodom to be selectable as one of the options in prologue.

Thoughts?

Yea I made that new "Defensive Roar" ability.

Phodom roars and musters his muscles giving him 10 armor for 10 seconds and making enemies attack Phodom in a wide area. |n|c00FEBA0EHotkey: S. |nType: Instant. |nCast time: 0. |nCooldown: 20 seconds. |nEffect: Doesn't increase at all. |n|c00FEBA0ECalc: -

Is that in the current version or something upcoming?

It is implemented.
Along the shore the cloud waves break,
The twin suns sink behind the lake,
The shadows lengthen
In Carcosa.

Strange is the night where black stars rise,
And strange moons circle through the skies,
But stranger still is
Lost Carcosa.

Songs that the Hyades shall sing,
Where flap the tatters of the King,
Must die unheard in
Dim Carcosa.

Song of my soul, my voice is dead,
Die thou, unsung, as tears unshed
Shall dry and die in
Lost Carcosa.

I'm not being harsh on anything but I think this Defensive Roar spell should be changed from giving bonus armors to reducing damage taken i.e. when the spell is activated Phodom will take only 50~70% of incoming damage. I think this is better for a tanking Phodom as in later chapters it will be much useful than only giving a fixed amount of armors as the spell currently is doing.

Armor = reduce damage taken.

You think now the ability isn't strong enough or what?

Fine enough, and how about giving an amount of armors that is increased with spell level like every spell level grants 1 bonus armor in addition to the basic 10. Therefore at level 20 you will have 30 bonus armors instead.

It's preety good since phodom is always tanking.
And it's easy to tank , just get fradz back for a cuple of seconds , while Phodom attacks with spells(to anger the enemy). Then use Fradz , since he has 250 range , he can attack from the back of Phodom.

Armor is percentage so I think 10 bonus is fine. It's good in the beginning but also in the end.

Nope , it's not.I've tried the defensive roar , It's ridicoulous!I am with Doomlord , the ability SHOULD increase with lvl , for ex 10 armor + 0,25x lvl. This could go verry nice , I mean at lvl 100 you' have 35 armor.Change it , to make it better. Also , about unbalanced things , here's something I noticed during my playtrought in the latest version:

-Soul burn deals a way-too-low ammount of dmg , and requires all the spell points to make that demon stronger , while most of the players give up , and start picking the elemental , cause it's the same , even better.
-Spining death is as buggy as hell - if I move  , the effect is lost , sometimes the effect is lost even if I am targeted by a spell , or just randomly(I have maximum mana , it start draining but it stops).
-Seal of Ressuruction is way to strong and unbalanced
-Instant slash dosen't have call down and deals no dmg

Hello,

Furthermore about the armor percentage, has anyone proved it true? Because it doesn't seem like to be what it is.

I only recall one and only one map that had a system which revealed the real armor percentage, and it was really hard to get it past 25% even - The current one is just a lie.

True

The "\" stands for me ^^.

I am with DD Canada. Somehow the percentage shown when mouse-hovering over the armor icon seems ridiculous. In some RPG maps you can get to 66% but the damage reduction is not the same.
Guess I'm back to my original idea: a Damage Reduction spell that doesn't care about armors.
