About the food system
« on: November 14, 2011, 04:23:29 am »
Hello.

I received some feedback about the food system. Some say it's okay, some say a change must be done.

What do you think?

The thread title is so damn misleading...
Along the shore the cloud waves break,
The twin suns sink behind the lake,
The shadows lengthen
In Carcosa.

Strange is the night where black stars rise,
And strange moons circle through the skies,
But stranger still is
Lost Carcosa.

Songs that the Hyades shall sing,
Where flap the tatters of the King,
Must die unheard in
Dim Carcosa.

Song of my soul, my voice is dead,
Die thou, unsung, as tears unshed
Shall dry and die in
Lost Carcosa.

The food system is perfectly okay...keep it! It might be annoying to stock up food every now and then, but otherwise it at least stops players from sitting around doing nothing.
Welcome to my nightmare!

Only issue I have is you should:

Make some sort of Visual queue when you are 5/10 or less food so players know when they are starving.

Too many times I'm in a boss battle wondering why I'm losing so much health only to finish the battle and realise I had -200hp/sec.

Also GREATLY SUPPORT DDCANADA's idea!

i believe those who did not agree about the food system is because

Negative answer = like to sit around doing nothing, let the hero patrol on a place where creeps respawn or forgot to check now and then

there are some positive answers but i don't know any of it (since i play RPG or campaign kind of games i always focus on the game i do not pay other attention to other activities)

I think that Aero should make some kind of warning message each time characters' vitality drops below 4. I sometimes forget about the negative regeneration and just step in the boss fights (dying really fast of course) so there should be a big and obvious reminder for ppl to remember to eat food when regeneration turns negative. The lower the vitality the bigger warning.
EDIT: Skasian also has the same idea as me (he replies when I'm posting). :)

IMO , It's perfect the way it is , no rush.
Maybe , if you just increase the duration between the vitality drops :D(I would rock if you do so >:) >:) >:)

Add warnings as the others have said, and maybe change to DD's system if you like.

Hello Aero,

no change is necessary according to my opinion, though I would also greatly appreciate a clearer warning if your Vitality drops into the critical interval.

I'm at the moment thinking something totally new but I don't have results yet.

More ideas are always welcome.

Hello,

How about 100 base food?

101 < X < 110 = Greater regeneration (achievable via items only)
70 < X < 100 = Normal regeneration
40 < X < 69 = No regeneration
10 < X < 39 = Negative regeneration
0 < X < 9 = Deadly negative regeneration

And yeah, thread name is very missleading.

This idea was okay but should be improved...

I don't like the current system because it's hard to notice when food goes down and it'a bit annoying to increase food all the time... Especially middle of battles.

then remove it. the only bad thing about the system is that it bug sometimes, decreasing ur food from 10 to 0 which really hurts during boss battles, e.g. butcher in chap 6
